The scoring
EVERY TIP IS WORTH 1 TO 6
We read the bookmakers' odds and turn them into a point value. Tip the raging favourite and it's worth a point. Tip a genuine roughie and it's worth up to six. We're not a betting agency — the odds are just the yardstick.
Odds move, so points move. Values refresh twice a day, 12pm and 6pm, right up until kick-off.
Draws pay in full. Both teams count as winners and everyone banks the points for the side they tipped.
Change your tip any time until the game starts. Tips stay hidden from everyone else until the round locks.
Miss a round? You're given the away team by default — but you only score its full roughie value if you picked it yourself.

THE USUAL QUESTIONS
How do I create or join a competition? ▾
Anyone can create or join a comp, free. The first person to create one becomes the commissioner and manages members, prize money and settings from the Commish panel.
Comps open once the season fixture is released and loaded onto Roughie Tips, and run for the regular season only — no finals or playoffs.
You need to be in a comp to tip. There's no solo tipping — the whole point is beating someone you know.
How does tipping work each round? ▾
Points come from bookmaker odds. We're not affiliated with any agency — the odds just set the point values.
Odds update twice a day, 12pm and 6pm, right up to kick-off, so point values can move until then. AEST for AFL and NRL, US Eastern for NFL.
Change your tip as often as you like before kick-off. Tips stay hidden until the round locks, then everyone's picks are revealed.
Forget to tip? You get the away team automatically — but to score its full roughie value you have to select it yourself, otherwise it's worth 1 point.
In multiple comps for the same sport? You only tip once and it carries across all of them.
Is there prize money? Is this gambling? ▾
Roughie Tips is free and takes no money at all. We're not a betting agency and we don't handle payments.
If your comp has a prize pool, your commissioner sets it and collects it however they normally would. We just display it so everyone can see where it stands.

Scoring System ▾
The bigger the upset you tip, the more points you score. Underdogs at $2.30+ earn bonus Roughie Points.

What happens in a draw?
If a match finishes level, both teams count as winners. Whichever side you tipped, you score the full points that team was paying — and if your pick was the underdog, the roughie points come with it. Nobody is penalised for a result neither team could control.
Note: This replaced the old rule, where a draw paid a flat 1pt to everyone. The new rule applies to every competition from the 2027 season onwards (and to the 2026 NFL season, which had not started when the rule changed). Completed competitions keep the scores they finished with — no past season is ever re-scored.
Create / Join a Competition ▾
Anyone can create or join a competition — it's completely free and very easy to use.
Competitions become available once the fixture for the upcoming season has been released and loaded on Roughie Tips.
All competitions run for the regular season only — finals and playoffs are not included.
The first person to create a competition becomes the Commissioner. As commissioner you can manage your competition settings — including member management, prize money info, and more — from the Commish panel.
My Tips ▾
Points are based on bookmaker odds. We're not affiliated with any betting agency — we just use the odds to set point values.
Odds update twice a day — 12pm and 6pm — right up until each match kicks off. Point values can move with them, so a game is only locked in once it starts. Times are Australian Eastern Standard Time for AFL & NRL, and US Eastern Time (ET) for NFL.
Change your tip as many times as you like right up until kick-off. Once a game locks, that pick is set.
Forget to tip? You automatically receive the away team. To score the full roughie value you must actively select the away team — otherwise you'll only receive 1pt if that selection wins.
Once the round locks, an icon appears and you can see what everyone else tipped.
Note: You must join or create a competition to be able to tip. No solo tipping — Roughie Tips is all about competing with your mates!
Tip: If you're involved in multiple competitions for the same sport, you only tip once — your tips automatically pull across to all of your competitions for that sport.
Leaderboard ▾
Any prize money is set entirely by your commissioner (the person who created your comp). Roughie Tips is not a betting agency and does not award or handle prize money.

H2H Challenges ▾
Challenge a mate for pure bragging rights — no impact on standings. Create one in the Chat section. The winner is whoever wins the most rounds across the season (margin is not used; a round win must be a clear winner).
Hall of Fame ▾
At the end of each season, the winning tipper is immortalised in the Hall of Fame forever — both for your comp and for the overall site. Open the Site Leaderboard and tap the Hall of Fame tab at the top of the page to see every champion.
Premium Features ▾
Print QR flyers for your venue — they automatically share your comp details so customers can join instantly.
TV Display Mode — show the live leaderboard on a screen at your venue.
TERMS OF SERVICE
Please read these terms before using Roughie Tips
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account and using Roughie Tips you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. These terms may be updated from time to time and continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of any changes.
2. The Service
Roughie Tips is a sporting tipping competition platform. The platform allows users to create and join tipping competitions, make tips on sporting matches, and compete on leaderboards. Roughie Tips is a game of skill — points are awarded based on correctly predicting match outcomes.
Roughie Tips is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the AFL, NFL, NRL or any of their clubs or organisations.
3. User Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information when registering. One account per person.
4. Competition Admin Responsibility
Competition administrators are responsible for the conduct of their competition including ensuring the chat feature is used appropriately. Admins must not permit bullying, harassment, discrimination or inappropriate content. Roughie Tips reserves the right to suspend or terminate competitions or accounts that breach these standards.
5. Prize Money & Head-to-Head Challenges
Any prize money within competitions is managed entirely between competition members. Roughie Tips does not collect, hold or distribute prize money. Head-to-Head Challenges are informal arrangements between users conducted on a bragging rights basis. Roughie Tips accepts no responsibility for any disputes between users.
You must not, whether directly or through any other person, company or entity you are connected with or act on behalf of: (a) copy, reproduce, scrape, data-mine, frame, mirror, reverse-engineer, decompile or create derivative works from any part of the Platform, its source code, or its scoring, ranking and points systems; (b) use the Platform, its content, or any confidential information obtained through it to build, operate, assist or contribute to any competing or substantially similar tipping, pick’em or sports-prediction product or service; or (c) remove, obscure or alter any proprietary, copyright or trade mark notices. These restrictions relate to your use of the Platform and its content, apply regardless of who you are employed by or associated with, and continue to apply after your account is closed.
8. Confidentiality
The specific methods, formulas, weightings, algorithms and logic that underlie the Platform’s scoring, ranking and related features are confidential and proprietary to Roughie Tips. To the extent they are not deliberately published by us, you must not disclose, replicate, or commercially exploit them outside your personal use of the Platform.
9. Limitation of Liability
Roughie Tips is provided as-is. We make no guarantees regarding uptime, accuracy of odds or results. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Roughie Tips accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of the platform.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
PRIVACY POLICY
How we collect, use and protect your data
What We Collect
We collect only what you provide: your name, nickname, and email address when you register. We also store your tips, margins, and competition activity as part of running the platform.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to operate the Roughie Tips platform — running competitions, displaying leaderboards, and sending optional email announcements you have opted in to. We never sell, share or use your data for advertising purposes.
Data Storage
All data is stored securely via Google Firebase infrastructure. Data is stored on servers located in the United States. By using Roughie Tips you consent to this storage arrangement.
Your Rights
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us via the Contact page. We will action deletion requests within 30 days.
Push Notifications
Push notifications are entirely optional. You may revoke permission at any time via your device or browser settings. We use OneSignal to deliver push notifications.

Not getting our emails?
Work email addresses are the usual culprit — company mail filters often quarantine automated mail before it ever reaches your inbox, so it won't be in your junk folder either.
Worth trying:
1. Check your junk and deleted folders.
2. Ask your IT team to allow mail from our sending domain.
3. Switch to a personal address — this is the one that actually works.
Heads up: if our mail can't reach you, password reset emails won't arrive either. If you're ever logged out you'd need us to fix it manually. A personal address avoids that.
Change your email
We'll send a confirmation link to the new address. Your email only changes once you click that link, so nothing breaks if you mistype again.
You're the commissioner
Running a comp means you're the one keeping the chat friendly. Most comps never have an issue, but if something crosses the line — bullying, harassment or anything that doesn't belong — you can remove it, and we'll back you up.
If a comp does get out of hand and isn't sorted, we may need to step in.

ROUGHIE TIPS
Footy tipping made fun — tip the winner, but the bigger the upset, the more points you earn. Backing an underdog pays off.
HOW POINTS WORK
Tip the winning team to score points. The points you earn depend on the odds — tip a favourite and earn the standard 1 pt, tip an outsider and earn between 2–6 pts.
Tips lock when the first bounce happens. If you forget to tip, the away team is auto-selected — so always get your tips in early.
Miss 3 rounds in a row without tipping and you are capped at 1 pt per correct tip until you start tipping again.
